Default Greasing Berrings...

I was riding my DS650 this weekend with my buddy and he chewed up everything in his rear end (he has a Alba Raptor) and I don't want this to happen to me. What type of maintenance can I do to make sure this doesn't happen? Do I have a zerk in the rear end that I can grease? How do you grease the rear bearings? Please help

Matt

The only zerk fitting is on the pivot tube. there isnt one on the carrier housing. Your best bet is to pull the axle and replace the seals and bearings. be sure to pack the bearing real good. bearings and seals are about 50 bucks from your dealer. I dont think you can get it apart without damaging the bearings and seals. You will need a breaker bar or a impact to get the axle nut off.

I believe that the bearings are sealed, very well to hold the grease in. And yes you will damage them if you take it apart and try to regrease the bearings. You will be better off just buying a new set to put in.
I put in hightemp grease to keep the friction down, to spin very smooth..

Bearings are not sealed.
If you spend any time in water get high grade marine grease.
Pull the axle and carrier. You may have to warm up the carrier to get the bearing races out and to get them back in.
If the bearings won't go in cold don't pack the bearings until after they are in the carrier.
Replace the seals always.

When I got the recall on my ds, I took it in to my friend that works at a dealership, and the new bearings where sealed, and needed to be pressed in.

I have a 2004 so maybe the 05 has sealed bearings. The part number I gave in the previous thread is an exact copy of the OEM bearing.
