Torn CV boots caused by gaurds
#1
Whats up people I recently bought a 05 700 carbed sportsman And I love almost everything. After riding through water at a preety decent speed the gaurds on the arms that are there to protect the boots folded back and cut the boots. The same thing happened to my buddies same bike. The dealer covered it but my warrenty is only so long and dont want to replacing these things every time I have a little fun in the water or mud. Any suggestions like after market gaurds and where to get them. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for any replys.

they make different types of gaurds, yuo can get meatal ones, if i were you i would just weld a small piece of rod to the back of each of them so that when the plastic gaurd goes back, the little rod stops it.

I looked at the gaurds today and I noticed that on the side the dealer fixed under warrenty the gaurd looked farther from the boot than the still original side. They took the gaurd off and bent the taps that the gaurds mount to forward. So I did the same to the other side I dont know if this is gonna work but I,ll let you all know. Theres definitly more clearence between the gaurds and the boots now.

I noticed for some reason the front guards on my new '05 were a lot closer too than on my '03. I did the same thing, I removed the guards and bent the steel tabs forward. They've stayed put ever since. I also checked and found the part numbers have changed for the new '05 front control arms on the twins, so my guess is the arms are also new, and they just didn't have them jigged up correctly when they welded the tabs on. It's a simple fix, and I was lucky to catch it on mine before it rubbed through the boots!

I think this happened on my scrammy, I thought I toasted the cv joint since their was grease everywhere I'll have to check the boot closer and see if it's just torn. I was blasting through water pretty quick all day when it happened.
