Default 12v. accessory wire for winch install

I'll be installing a Ramsey winch on my '05 400 4X4 Auto this evening and need to identify which ignition accessory wire is the right one to connect to. I need to identify a 12v. wire that's hot only when the key is in the on position. Was wondering also if there is an accessory wire that is already available with a spade connector, or will I need to splice into one? Am going to try the wireless remote model - I hope it's not more trouble than it's worth!

Its in the harness running across top of the engine next to the starter behind the cylinder. Its fairly well stuffed under the harness.

Thanks for your reply Bear. Do you by chance know if that particular wire is identified by a specific color? Maybe red with a white stripe or something? If it's not identified, I'll dig out the tester and find it... if I can find the tester since we moved! Thanks again Bear.

It is a 2 pin plug, one male, ground and a black wire and a female, 12 volts and red. The plug is usually black and your winch harness should have a plug just the opposite so you can plug then together. At least mine did.

mine was located right next the air filter box. like bear says its tucked tight but your winch should plug right in.

Yup - that's exactly where it was, but they sure didn't leave me a lot of wire length to work with. I had a heck of a time getting my big ol' clubs in there to make the connection, but finnaly got it done! Thanks to both of you for your help.
