I go by the little plate on the rear fender. I think it's around 4psi front and rear. You can go over these numbers slightly, depending on your preference. The harder you go the less the tires will flex, and the harsher the ride, too low, and you run the risk of denting the rim or de-beading a tire.

It depends on your riding style. If you're a fairly casual rider who wants a soft easy ride, 4 psi would probably suit you fine. However if you tend towards a more aggressive style, you would want to run more pressure to reduce rollover of the tire in cornering and understeering, especially with the stock tires. I run 6 psi all round in Bandit XC's. These tires have a very rigid sidewall and 6psi is adequate. I have run as high as 10 psi in some tires with thinner, less rigid sidewalls to achieve some semblance of stability. Bottom line, experiment with various pressures in your riding style and check the pressure each time you ride. Quad tires are notorious for being leakers, and a pound or so difference makes a difference in handling.
