Lectron 46
#1
I would like information from anyone who has used both the TM45 and the Lectron 46. Now numbers aside, as that is not what I am looking for. Please help with these thoughts. The TM45 has outstanding acceleration of the line with the pumper activated, how does the Lectron compare? Also, the throttle pull on the TM45 sucks, and my office thumb does not like it, and a twist is not for me. How is the Lectrons throttle pull compare between stock and the TM45? Everyones help would be appriciated. Thanks

My opinion on both are if you run alcohol use the TM. If you use gas go with the Lectron. The Lectron pull is alot easier and it seems to hold its tune. By this I mean not much affects the Lectron such as elevation and temp. The TM is a great carb I just had trouble keeping it tuned on gas. It is a little hard on the thumb but I run alcohol and its simple to put on alky. I have both but one other thing on the Lectron you must port your intake and the Lectron is very pricey. The Lectron also wont work with the stock throttle and cable which adds to the price. Im sure some other people will chime in with thier own opinions. Later and good luck

I've had both and I liked them both. The TM takes some unscientific manipulting in order to get the thumb somewhat workable. I think that Hightower is the one to talk to about that. The Lectron doesn't have that problem, in fact, your thumb won't even know it's there. It takes some tuning to get it where it needs to be, but once there you can forget about it. There was a stuck shut problem, but with the help from the HPR guys, you'll find that it can be tuned out.
I like the acceleration with the TM and the Lectron, however the LECTRON is SICK once you get it dialed in. In fact, you'll have a VERY difficult time keeping the front end down.
Other than that, Meaner is on spot. You'll have to get the Moose thumb throttle for any of the Lectons, however that in and of itself is a piece of art. VERY nice piece of equipment.
BD - OUT!

Both opinions very helpful. I wanted a billet thumb throttle anyway, now just a reason to buy it
BTW bigdaddy, the TM45 is still around. My dad is using it, and he loves the way the throttle responds now and his new gains. So it was money well spent there. We really appriciate it.

No worries... I'm glad you like it. I really like the TM, it's a DARN good carb. Seems that for what I'm doing now, my Lectron 48 fits the bill pretty well. 730 big bore, cams, head and pushing a 35 shot (as soon as the Boondocker jets come in), the HV48 is REAL nice.

The only thing negative I have ever heard about the Lectron is the price and that it can be tough to find someone who knows how to tune it if you don't do that yourself. You can't just walk into a motorcycle shop and ask them to dial in your carb for $50. The first thing they will say is, "what the hell is that"? The next thing they will do is start to pull your floatbowl off to look for the jets.
Strictly from a performance standpoint I have never heard anyone with a properly tuned Lectron say they are so much happier with their TM45. I am sure they are out there, I just haven't heard them.
If you go with the Lectron, give Randall a detailed description of your bike, riding area and elevation and every modification no matter how minor then schedule a riding trip with someone who has tuned one of these things. I could probably dial one in in about half an hour including all the ride time it takes. If you ride with Scatterbrain, I'm sure he could do it to.
Once you watch it done, you will be able to easily tune your own carburator when conditions change that warrant it.
Let me know next time you are coming up to the Oregon dunes.

If your going to go with the lectron go with the 48. It will work fine on stock bore but if you step up on the bore your going to be short with the 46. My experience with the lectron has been difficult at times. Tuning can be a real B!tch but once you get it down its not to bad. Throttle routing is the key to getting a decent throttle pull. It is stiffer than stock but still managable. Keeping the cable clean and properly adjusted is regular maintnance. Theres alot of places for crap to get in. Shrink tube the adjuster connections on the cable and put a dab of silicone where the cable comes into the carb. It took awhile to get it working right. Like dsnut said call Randall and have him set it up for your application. You have been on my bike so you know what a lectron is capable of
