04 Kodiak 400 4x4 Skid plate question
#1
I have only the plastic, factory skid plate/guard on my quad. Then, this past summer I climbed up on my 5x8 trailer with a 4" drop hitch on my Expedition (I usually have a straight hitch/ball). Now with the rear end higher than normal, as I climbed up into the trailer, I hit, pinched, and destroyed the rubber, accordian style boot and spring clamp that protects the shaft going to the rear end. I luckily discovered I had a bad rear oil seal and replaced it. I don't ride very often, but am pretty rough on my quad with riding in the woods and creeks. All the logs and rocks I encounter, are there heavier skid plates that will reach back far enough to protect that boot and not interfere with the rear end motion? I do a bit of welding and have thought about designing something to protect my ride from all the crap I make it do.

I consider myself an aggressive, but safe quad rider. I only do what my ***** let me...

I know for the sport quads, they make skid plates for the swingarm, but there arent many for the utes. Ricochet makes one for that model, and they are carried by rockymountainatv. I think they are about 80 bucks or so.
