i have a new 06 recon, manual shift. sometimes i can be in like 4 gear and try to downshift and it wont down shift, other times i can be in like 2 or 3 and i cant shift up or down, it gets stuck in gear and will not go to another gear. i then keep going and keep trying to downshift or upshift and it will all of a sudden act right, anyone now whats wrong?? thanks

 

First thing to do is check the clutch adjustment. Its on the front engine cover. Loosen the lock nut, turn the screw counterclockwise until resistance is felt. Then turn the screw clockwise 1/4 turn and tighten the locknut. I'm curious how many miles you think are on the machine. Being an '06 I'm guessing not many. If the clutch adjustment doesn't work, then you may have to pull off the clutch cover to investigate.

 

I had a 99 recon that started doing the same thing after I had it for about 7 months. It would miss a gear sometimes too. My warranty ran out so I just rode it the way it was, I tried adjusting the clutch like 1988TRX250R described but to no avail. I never did get it fixed, just sold it.

 

i would say it has less than 100 miles on it, only about 4 tanks of gas ran through it so far, still under warranty, it may have less than 50 miles on it or close to it. only had it since begining of jan 06

 

It's still under warranty, just take it back to the dealer and let them figure it out. Trying to fix it youself can void the warranty.
