Default do i need a new transmission??

my 87 quadsport 230 at high speeds winds out but doesnt go as fast as it should be. its like pulling in the clutch slightly and half disengages the motor but its only at high speeds just before u shift into a higher gear. do i need a new transmissio or just a clutch?

What you are describing sounds like you just need a new clutch. How old is the clutch in it now? Do you slip the clutch a lot? If the tranny is shifting in and out of all gears fine, and doesn't pop out of gear on it's own, then I doubt you have any tranny problems.

A loud clicking noise? Is your chain tight? Other than that I have no clue, but a lot of people here will have more knowledge on that. I'm sure someone will post shortly.
