problem with a 87 250x please help

Default problem with a 87 250x please help
I have a 87 250x and I just rebult it. I haven't started it yet but It won't shift into any gears except (N) and (1st) any ideas out there? please help

Are you spinning the transmission, as you try to shift?

rock atv back and forth as your tring to shift it if that dont work make sure not in reverse
