Default Spark Plug Boot - anyone else have the spring that hold the plug go?

Was at my Bud's house last night getting ready to fire up his Pami 680 and he was having trouble putting the spark plug cap on. . . I'ld had this issue before so we tore the boot apart and the screw and clip were damaged, apparently from being loose and bounding around with intermittant contact. . . similar to what I've seen before.

Has anyone come up with a good fix for this?

About the best I'ld seen was the guys running the MSD boxes have a different boot which uses the ball end on the spark-plug cap rather than just the threaded end we have.

These boots cost about $20 each and I haven't been able to pick-up just the threaded spring-screw thing.

There is a resistor of some sort that falls out when you pull out the screw so, just replacing the cap with a different type that goes onto the ball end type plug may not work???

Anyone have some insight?

I went to a local bike shop( not bombardier specific) and found some plug caps that worrked for around $5 ea- don't know for sure what make and model they went to, it is just a matter of time and they get loose on everyone.

Until I switched to the MSD, I used to replace at least one per year.

They suck.

On page 798 in the newest Dennis kirk catalog, they offer NGK plug caps.

Not sure if xb05f is the right one, but they are only $3.30 each.

I know the x and the f are right not sure about the b and the 05 parts.

My Bud just picked his up from the dealer. He said they are only about $3 each now. . .

I went ahead and ordered 4 of them. . . I'm due to have my other ones go again.

Thanks for the info Al.
