27" badlands and 14" visions on a sportsman 500
#1
Im thinking about about buying these for the sp 500 but i want to know if it will kill the power
im willing to get a clutch kit maybe heelclicker or something. but i thought maybe i would get some opinions first. would you Recommend them or should i go with the 12" rims with 26" wheels??

Put 27's if you ride more mud the trail..26's if you ride more trail then mud. I'd definatly get a clutch kit..I noticed a huge power loss with 26's..then even more once I went to 27's.

Unless you are a complete mud fanatic I'd go with a 26"x12" tire package. My reasons for saying this are:
The bigger the tire/wheel package the more abuse your drivetrain components take.
You will get more ground clearance and traction......but at a substantial loss of manuverability and handling.
The big (27" and up) tire/wheel package weigh more.....loss of power and more un-sprung weight.
$$$.......those big tires/wheels cost more.
ALSO...you mentioned the 14" rims.
I had the Polaris 26"x14" Vision wheel/Kenda Bounty Hunter package. Those rims a absolutely beautiful......bling, bling , bling......but unfortunately they're not a good choice for the knarly stuff. If you're gonna be riding rocks, ruts, rough rooted woods trails, ice-in-ruts etc....then stick with the 12" rims. I had to return the aformentioned tire/wheel package as a warrantee return because I kept getting bead failure and repeatedly got flats out on the trail......a HUGE pain in the arss!!!. Fortunately my dealer.....ARMANDS POWER SPORTS IN HALIFAX, MASS.....stepped up to the plate and gave a full refund even though the wheels/tires were beyond the warranty period. I believe that this package is inherently ill-designed for rough trail conditions and that a 12" wheel is better suited by design. The Vision 14" wheels were absolutely gorgeous.........but simply not suited to the application. Ultimately, I think the Kenda Bounty Hunter Radials were a good tire.....but the 14" rim and 26" tire size just put too much strain on the beads........they wouldn't hold.......and I got flats nearly every time I rode.
Moral to the Story:
Go with a 26"x12" package.
BTW......I recently got the 26"x12" ITP Type 7/Mudlite XTR package and I can't say enough about it. It is light steering, excellent tracking and really handles well. This combined with 6-ply construction, relatively light weight and large lugs for the sloppy stuff.......it's a super good all-around package. I'm very pleased with this package and highly recommend its consideration.
Good Luck, Bob

OMG OMG! you have got to be kidding me! Is that forReal on Ebay?? Brand New ITP Type 7 Wheels for a Sportsman 600-700 only cost $300.00 !! I JUST PAID $400.00 FOR ITP TYPE 5 !! why didnt i look on Ebay first. I would've gotten Type 7 but they cost more, but obviously not here. Even with Tax + Shipping and handling, it would be much less than what i paid. So is this real? or is this just for 2 wheels? or 2 wheels + 2 tires or what. It dosent appear so. Just type in the search box on ebay, "itp c series" and look at the prices, its ridiculous. Tell me if this is too good to be true. im finding type 5's for $270.00
