Default LT80 needs to improve holeshot

Hi Jack, (and anybody else with some thoughts or ideas)

I got a question for ya on the LT with your motor?

We have no holeshot at all. The thing runs like a rocket though once the RPM's kick up and the thing engages. Runs great at high RPM's.
Poor Ash is doing great, but what she is losing off the start is hard to make up with the other fast quads. If we can get her with them from the get go, she's going to do even better.

We've got your motor, a 20mm carb with K&N, 24 gram front clutch weight, not sure what you put on the rear clutch.

When she starts, it lags for a few seconds until the rpm's get high enough, then takes off.

With some other advice, I've tried lightening the front clutch from 24 grams to 18-20 grams, with not luck.

Jetting seems good, tried a 52 slow jet, vs the 50 that was there. No luck.

Haven't touched the rear clutch yet. Has been suggested to maybe put in a new big spring.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thanks a bunch,

Sean

I would get an fmf fatty moto pipe for it. It is designed to increase power in the whole
powerband.

I'm sure Jack will chime in and clear this up.It's likely transmission related but in the mean time have you tried different clip positions on the needle in the carb?..How about different gearing?

Sorry folks, been racin.
CT/Trinity pipe?? Which one? They are different. He's going to refresh my memory as to the exact pipe.
Sorry dude, the FMF is a very poor exhaust for a highly modded motor. They rocket out of the hole but stop revving in the (I'd guess) 8000 rpm range. Not the 11,500 rpm's we use. For a stock motor, the FMF may be good.

This problem is in the rear clutch shoes I'm thinking.
Once I get an answer, I'll advise and update this thread.

I'd be willing to bet that's most of your problem... Stock clutch arms weigh around 216 Grams... The lighter you make them the more stall you'll get... As you know the hole shot is pretty much the single most important part.
I have ours arms @ about 155 Grams... and it launches... Of course there's more to do to the rear clutch than just lightening the arms. Different clutch arm & rear main springs and some rework ... Like Jack said, he can elaborate more on this once you get more background info to him...

Yep, it's a Trinity pipe.
I've got Jacks motor and clutch work. I haven't weighed the rear shoes and I can't remember what Jack had them at.
I'm sure it's a clutch issue, just trying to troubleshoot it.

My rear spring comment was due to somebody saying that the rear spring may be wore out or something and I should replace it to see if that helps or not.
I see I have a PM and it is probably from Da Man
better go see what he has to say.

Rudedog, you so right baby, holeshot is everything, and that's what I gotta get back

Thanks for all the info

I'm working with Jack right now on curing the same problem. The holeshot is hurting us too. I'm sure Jack will have us all fixed up in no time.
