My '97 doesn't have an EBS label either. My '04 does have an EBS label. The '97 slows the same as the '04, so I would say yes it does.

98 was the first year that EBS came stock on the Sportsman.

Yes, but if I remember correctly it only came standard at about mid-98 model year. We have a 98 sp 500 and it does have EBS, but it also has the EBS sticker indicating it. I'm guessing yours doesn't have it since it's not labeled. Descending a faily steep incline would probably give you more info, as with our sp when you do it almost locks up the rear wheels there's so much EBS. Be safe though!

Yes down steep hill's thats what it does, I need to give a little gas to stop them from locking up.And no label,
Just could not remember if it did that from day one.

thanks

Last night my buddy learned that when there are no trees near by and I'm stuck in a hole 10 miles from home that riding up to me to see how bad it is might not be the best plan!
1 hour to get me out the 3 min to wintch him out. (one at a time please)

See you out there.
Matt

My bet friend has a 98 500 without ebs. It does not act like my 05 500 when you let off the throttle. You can feel it slow down but nothing like an ebs machine.

If I remember correctly I purchased my 98 Sportsman in Apr 98 and it had factory EBS complete with stickers. I believe you are correct in saying that the EBS came in half way through the model year.
Going down a steep hill with EBS can be an eye opening experience. The rear wheels will almost lock up causing the rear wheels to slide and want to pass the front. Blipping the throttle helps control the decent but on really steep hills it can be damn scary. The AWD is great for most riding with true 4WD the dark side is definitely the steep down hills.</FONT>
