06 sportsman 500 EFI in water
#1
I recently purchased my atv and before I got it I never heard a bad word but now that I have a Polaris everyone tells me if you get in any water your belt will slip ( however none of these people own a Polaris!)I've read alot on the forums and so far it sounds like as long as you don't go over the racks or hit the water fast your ok, but most of the posts dealt with older models and carbs. Does anyone know how the EFI performs in water and has there been any improvements since 2003 when they changed clutch covers and added a drain. Thanks

Hey Bigpappa, we have an 05 ATP 500 and an 06 Sportsman X2 500 EFI. Both have been in water up to the headlights without any belt slippage at all. We enter waterholes at about 5mph and keep a steady momentum to get through the holes with muddy bottoms. No problems yet. Enjoy. It's amazing what these machines do in stock trim.

i have a SP800 and I ride in water all day on some rides & never get water in the belt housing. If you want to see it on film then type "hurley ride" into the search space and watch 2 SP700's and my Sp 800 run in water and mud up to the head lights all day......It was fun!
