Default Good beginners quad

I'm looking for a good cheap beginners quad for my wife. She's not ready for a clutch yet. A fully automatic (what is the name for these?) would be ideal. A shifter without a clutch(what is the name for these?) will work.

I have a 400ex and most of the ppl we ride with have a comparable wheeler. I want her's to be able to keep up with us when we are riding around. I'm guessing we ride in the 40-50mph range. It would need to have enough power to pull itself up a few small hills but, mostly i just want to be able to cruise in 5th and not have to stay in 3rd or 4th to stay back with her. I dont care if it is sport or utility. I will prob be buying used.

Any suggestions?

The Honda 250EX was made for her! It has an autoclutch transmission, but also has a "sportclutch" where you can use a left hand clutch if you want....great aid for beginners to learn to use a full on clutch.

Pure fun to ride! It has descent power, and great handling. Fairly light, dead solid reliable, and low maintenence. The suspension is a bit tight compared to a higher end sport quad, so the ride isn't always plush, but it isn't bad either.

Got to say that the stock tires are lame on this machine. They are balooney, and make the quad a little bit tippy in tight turns. We replaced ours with the new ITP TracStar radials, and it really improves the ride in every way!

reconranger, thank you for the advice. I was looking at the 250EX because I tend to lean the Honda way.

I agree the 250EX would be perfect for her.

250EX or Z250 are about the closest fit. 50mph is pushing it a bit with these models, but they do fine for spirited trail riding and have the power to conquer decent hillclimbs.
