hey guys i went riding this weeken and i rode deep water had to drain the clutch cover out twice with lots of water.so i took it apart and the first primary look horrible so wat do i clean it with?also i read to buy grizzy grease but i went to the yamaha dealer and the only thing they have is called ultramatic grease,is this the same?so after i clean it wat do i grease up and how much grease i put in

marine grease is every bit as good as "grizz grease". when you've got the belt cover off, look at the right side. remove the sheave there. you should see an inner sheave with a cover on it, with "weights" (or rollers) inside. you'll see where the grease goes inside that case/cover where the weights are. to clean out old grease, i used solvent.
ALSO, check both your front and rear beltcase intake/breather tubes. you've probably become disconnected at either the front or rear, and that's how your water is getting in. poor clamping system. some guys have even posted on here that they sleaved the inside of the tube with an old tin can to give the clamp something more rigid to hold to.

The same thing happened to me. In fact I just got my clutch re-assembled tonight. I also called the Yamaha dealer and they never heard of Grizzly Grease. He told me the ultra grease is what they use, However they were out of that also. I looked everywhere for some information about other grease. I just went to the hardware store and bought some super lube synthetic, But it was pretty light, So i bought some heavy grease that has moly in it. I started the quad and it seems to run pretty good. I'm planning on going to Hatfield & McCoy this weeekend I guess I'll find out then. I was suprised how dirty my clucth was, I'm surprised it would even go.

Hi hi all.. Yeah I sunk my Kodie too. Took my clutch apart and man it was packed with dirt instead of grease. Had to run it under water to get the wheeler out. So did some reading here and questions.. I just bought a tub of Grizzly Grease or what Yammy calls ultramatic grease (same same) $$20.00 though for a small tub.. I have a boat and think the grizz grease is abit better then marine grease. Only question is how much do you pack the inside of the clutch with? The whole tub or just enough to keep it rolling smooth? One guy told me a cup or so, seems abit much to me. Or will it make any differance if I just use the whole tub in there as I am sure it will all fit. I like the white grease alot better as you can tell when it needs to be cleaned or changed vrs the blue or black stuffs. Interesting lay of how the primary clutch works.
As for the belt. I was told to get some Orange Goop Hand cleaner or similar and a good stiff brush and have at it with the belt, then let it dry over night. Sound kinda like it would work. Dont understand why the heck these belts cost so darn much. Snow Machine belts are 1/3 the price of the 4 wheeler belts. Dont see how they are much different from each other.
