I have a 2002 sportsman 500 HO and after i let off the gas it will start to back fire, like three or four times in a row. Also if i go to give it full throttle from a dead stop it will start to die and then kick in. I've changed the plug already so i know its not that. Any help would be much appreciated

 

I am having the same trouble with my 03 SP 700 carb. It was running great but I did some serious mudding on Sat. Got up on Sunday, and it would back fire & not staying running. I can run it at 1/4 choke all day long. I won't have time to pull the panels off & take a look until the weekend. Is it normal to foul plugs on this model? Should I do the plugs or go clean the carb first?

Any help would be much appreciated!

 

Pellta it sounds like you got junk in the carb you might need to give it a good cleaning , also check to see that your ETC is adjusted properly!honda you need to check the usual suspects air box & carb , i've also run into the carb adapter spliting(usually on the under side ) , the plugs definately need to be changed & yes they foul out alot if your air/fuel mixture is off, i always carry spares , hope that helps

 

is there any oil spray in the airbox?
