HONDA MECHANICS!--Looking at 06Rubicon, shift problems only at low idle, HELP PLEASE!!!
#1
HI there,
I'm hoping for some help here. I'm looking at buying an 06 Rubicon, with low miles, but has a problem with the shifting. When you first start it and keep your idle up you can drive it and it will shift just fine, no problems whatsoever, but when you come to a stop and the engine idles down, something inside the computer I assume, makes it so it will only run in LOW gear, but if you shut it off for a second and restart it, it will shift fine if you take off and not let it idle. Could there be a short of some sort in a wire? Has anyone heard of this kind of thing. I know there has been shifting problems with these trannys but this exact problem? Just wondering what it may possibly cost me. I will probably be buying it withing a couple days. Any help is HUGELY appreciated. Thanks.

yeah, well the transmission shifts fine, and works fine as long as you don't let it idle when you come to a stop, I asked him if it would shift fine and work fine for 5 miles he said yes, no problems, as long as you don't come to a stop it shifts fine... by the sounds of it, it is something electrical and not the tranny itself. I'm wondering what the mechanics think?

Thanks Honda Mechanic, this is a very general question, but how big of a problem could it be? A short in a wire? or possibly a sensor? What is your best educated guess or general Idea? Have you heard of this exact problem? I searched through a whole lot of posts and never found the exact same problem?

I could not start a new topic, something to do with my firewall so I am posting in reply to this one. My neighbor has a 650 rincon ( 05 model) it displays no error codes while riding for any amount of time. The problem is the atv will not shift out of first, it shows on the display 1st, 2nd and 3rd but never shifts. I checked everything I could find, I checked the two solenoids on top of tranny ( more like spool valves), they function and are getting power. I tried auto, esp and in 4 wheel drive and still no shift. The oil level is low and recently changed by him in his garage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
