My 2001 Sportsman will not engage into 4wd. It has been working fine, then simply stopped.

Also, my front hubs/tires freeze every time I go to ride it. Is there a trick to help prevent this? Or if I have to live with it, a better way t get them unlocked other than "git on it and go"?

Thanks much.

Kevin

Could have torn the wire to the front wheels, or the switch may have gone bad. Best thing is to take a circuit tester and see where there is power in the 4wd circuit.

I you mean that your hubs freeze in 4WD, though I've never seen it, I'm told that the polaris manual says to put the machne in reverse and hold the brake on then goose the gas. This should dis engage the hubs.

I have a 2000 and just had the same problem in deep snow. Haven't had a chance to look at it yet though.
The book says the 4WD is on demand, if the rear wheels spin the front are suppose to engage, but that didn't happen.
I have been told by others that once you switch to 4WD all four wheels are suppose to be engaged all the time.
Does anyone have the right answer??

The fronts engage when the rear wheels start spinning.

I noticed the same problem while riding in deep snow this weekend. The AWD light didn't come on every time I hit the switch. Had to turn it on and off a few times. Never noticed it before, but then again, it was night time, and you can't really see the light in the daytime.
