I have an 05 700 sportsman with less than 400 miles that has never been sunk. The dash/speedometer and 4wd dont work. I have checked all 3 fuse blocks and all connections. Full battery power and runs and starts fine. All lights work. Was told it could be the module (finned aluminum block ahead of steering column). Any ideas? what could I check or test?

 

Its the AWD switch thats broke. u should have a diagnostic mode u can get into on display. and it will tell u if switch is toast.

 

the newer bikes speedo run the awd, so if the speedo breaks you wil looose the awd most of the time. i do know the modual does controll alot of things but not sure on the speedo part.

 

This would not explain why the speedometer, gear indicator, or any of the other dash functions (including diagnostics) don't work. Correct?

 

maybe, your gauge pod runs everything. if u can start and ride it then module fine.

 

fixing the dash is the first step--- it is wired into everything, somehow. I rolled my machine a destroyed the pod. The machine wouldn't start until i unplugged the speedo inside the pod (carb model). Try a dash first-- is it under warranty?

 

im still leaning that the speedo is junk somehow. its not uncommon for them to go bad. its just very expensive to fix.
