manual transmission issue on 250 Wildfire
#1
Hello everyone,
Looking for some help. I just purchased a wildfire 250-q2. Its about 8 months old but never been driven. (seller couldn't sell it so I got it a nice discount over what they sell for)
We replaced the oil with a synthetic and did the same for the gear oil. There was a minor problem with the gas line but fixed that as well.
There are, however, two problems:
1. There is an issue with the gears. The thing is real, real touchy. I have a hard time locating 1st gear and the digital reader sometimes indicates nothing (as if it does not know what gear it is in...). I am able to get going most of the time by starting moving in 2nd gear. I can't imagine that is a great long-term plan but has worked so far. If I ever drive and then downshift to neutral, it shuts off instead of idling when in neutral. Is there a way to adjust this - particularly the issue not locating 1st gear?
2. Second issue is minor in comparison but the throttle is real hard to press. I'd hope it would loosen up but its pretty tough to push in all the way.
I appreciate any help ya'll might provide me! BTW, I just left a voice mail with tech support at wildfire motors.....

take a look how the cable routed making sure their's no kinks or tight bends, then if thats not it you need to go buy a cable luber and lube the cable cost should be around $10.00

Thanks billl2099. Can you tell me where to purchase it? I hate to push my luck but can you send me a link? I am as mechanically inclined as Paris Hilton. lol

any motorcycle/atv dealer in your area should have a cable luber with the lube, but check out the cable routing first, if the cable is not routed correctly it will bind causing the thottle hard to pull and a sticking thottle, also you may want to take apart the thumb thottle assy and lube that as well , but my guess would be more than likely it's the cable routing than anything else

Cable lubers are one of those nice to have tools, and hopefully bill2099's advice will fix your problem. If the routing is OK and the lube doesn't help, you could always look to a universal thumb throttle extender. I know I have seen them through Rocky Mountain ATV and Motosport. Probably all the big retailers sell something along those lines. It may not be the most aesthetic solution, but it helps and can be had for $20.00 or less. In the past, other people have modified thumb throttles to fit from one atv to another. The prevalent direction here is to buy an assembly for a Honda (400EX perhaps) and then install that in place of the stocker. That is a little more demanding mechanically and $$wise, but can yield great results. Good luck
