Went to start my sons atv but nothing. it just clicks. i have power going to the starter but it wont even attempt to turn over...any suggestions

Are you sure the battery is fully charged? If you have a volt meter hold it on the terminals and see if the volts drop a lot when you hit the starter.

 

yes i charged all night. i even went and bought a new battery yesterday. i tried jumping it off and it would turn over but wouldnt crank because it was cold...after a couple of minutes of trying it just went dead again and now all it will do is make a clicking sound everything i try and turn it over...i checked the voltage from the battery to the starter when you press the button and it would show 12.3 volts but wouldnt attempt to turn over.

 

Sounds like the starter died. The clicking sound is the solenoid triggering the starter.

 

i am thinging that as well but wasnt sure...what about if it has an alarm and remote start. could that have anything to do with it if the alarm isnt working right?

 

I am having the exact same problem, mine is a taotao ata110-b .

i purchased one for my son on the 23rd of december, i had the company put mine together. i took it home and charges the battery over night, then on Christmas eve i fired it up and it was fine. christmas morning when my son found it, we tried to crank it and it was dead!!! i jumped it off and he rode it for a hour or so then we put it up and left. this morning i tried to start it and it was dead again, the owners manual doesnt really go into much detail but after trying to crank it over and over i started hearing this buzzing noise and then shortly after that all i got were clicks everytime i went to start it!!!

THIS HAS BEEN A FREAKING NIGHTMARE!!!!!!

My son got a broken four wheeler for Christmas!!!!

I just wanted to give you a heads up on these chinese quads. I have worked on a lot of them at my shop and they have good pwerplants in them but some of the electrical system i have come across suck. So do the chinese batteries they pu in them. I have had to fix this problem on many brands from TAOTAO to TANK-sports.Plus depanding on the brand you have it may not have a pulse generator in it which charges your battery while you run your quad. Some quads only come with a little charger.

 

The alarms, remote kill systems will drain the batteries on these things pretty quick. We never arm the alarm on them or use the remote kill. Make sure that if it has one of these systems on it, that you don't use the alarm.

 

I purchased one for my son for Christmas and it would not start in the cold. I found that the oil the Chinese manufacturer was using gets quite thick in the cold and causes the engine to have trouble turning over. I replaced the oil with 5w30 Honda oil and it starts now. Last night was minus 20 celcius and it started first thing. Hope this may help.
