2002 Polaris 90 top end rebuild.

My son's scrambler needs a new top end. Does anyone know what the cylinder to piston wall clearance is? My machine shop needs this info. I think I'm gonna go with a 53mm piston. I've never done this before but I'm decent with a wrench so I hope I can handle it.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

did you ever think about just buying a new 53mm cylinder and piston kit off ebay or where ever and just bolt it up ? skip the machine shop hassle and keep your old cylinder by the time you get your old jug bored and matching piston and gaskets seperate your paying just as much as the kit i bet
by the way i put the 52mm kit on my sons 90 last year , bolted on the whole kit and it runs like a champ

IMO, no rerason to go to a bigger bore. CC's isn't what makes speed/power on a 2 stroke. You just going to waste the available bore sizes.
I don't think a stock cylinder can be bored to 53mm.
A bore should cost about $40. the piston kit $50-$70. Gaskets for $10.
I'm curious, your machine shop guy bore cylinders regularly?
FYI: Piston to wall clearance::: stock piston=.0025 to .003. Weisco =.035

I've thought of just buying the cylinder/piston kit but I kinda wanted to check out the machine shop just incase my wheeler, honda foreman 500, might need a bigger top end. The cost is pretty close, buying kit vs. getting the parts together myself.

Where did you get yours from?

From what I've found online, there are oversize pistons for his bike from 52.50mm to 53.50mm. Found them on DennisKirk.com. What else might I do other than going bigger? I've looked at exhaust/performance packages but I'm not quite sure what would be most effective without dropping $500+.
