Hello Everyone:
New to atv's and the forum. Bought one for plowing but think that I will enjoy it much more than I thought for trail riding. I am having an of and on problem with the awd. Sometimes it will not engage. This is more problematic in reverse, and yes, I hold the overide button in. I am able to get it to engage by turning the machine off and on. Sometimes I switch from awd to 2x4 and then turn the machine on, then switch back to awd. It typically works fine after doing that. It is getting a little frustrating as I may have to go through this process 6-7 times as I plow.
I am only moderately mechanically inclined but prefer to fix it myself whenever I can. I searched and searched for an old post until I could search no more.
All assistance is much apreciated.

It kida sounds like a front diff problem. Make sure the 4x4 light works on the display then check power and ground on the wires going to the diff. If that is ok, I would "guess" the cage may be starting to break in the front diff or the rollers are sticking. Maybe try changing the oil in the front diff a few times to flush it out. Make sure to use Polaris Demand Drive fluid. Anything else can cause engagement issues as well. If that doesn't help then I think you might be into a diff overhaul. There are John Deere parts that are a direct replacement and less than half the price of Polaris parts.

Here's the link, do a bit of reading and hopefully it'll save you some money if you have to get into the front diff.
