polaris scrambler water getting in around clutch cover

i have a 01 polaris scrambler 500 4x4 and when i go into water up around the clutch the belt starts to slip how can i stop this? also can this shorten the life of the belt?
l have tried that black tar looking sealing?

Make shure to check the air intake and exaust for the clutch cover is sealed all the connections also and i hade good luck with blue sylicone (cant spell to good)

I have never had a problem with water.Just dont blast through it.But do check to be sure your covers are not warpped(inner and outer) if one is replace both.

Have heard of filling the clutch housing with water and checking it for leaks that way. If you do get water in it on trail put it in N and ref it to expel the water. My older xplorer had that problem and removing the bolts to drain it was a pain until I learned this.

if your only going up to the cover in water then you must have a bad cover seal. air intake is alot high and wouldnt be coming in there unless like ftwflh said if it splashes. if it does get water on the belt make sure you dry off good like upnort said that way you wont keep slipping the belt which will shorten the life of it.
