Default 08 Sportsman 500 EFI gas mileage ?

I have an 08 Sportsman 500 EFI, I currently have 18 hours on it. I am getting approximately 8 mpg. I rode this weekend for approximately 5 hours at an average speed of 25 mph and went through a tank of gas. My buddy got his, which is the same as mine and didn't even go through a half of a tank. We were riding in the same manner, if I was riding hard he was, or if i was going slow so was he. Does anyone have any ideas on why my machine would be using so much more gas than his ?

I dont know why you dont get better mileage,I have an 08 500x2ho efi with about 25hrs on it and I get about 26-27mpg although this is on snow grommed trails, I dont know if that would make th at much of a diference?

Yikes. My 07 X2 500 got 26.4 mpg on a recent ride in 2WD. Take it back to the dealer and raise havoc.

Could you have been in low range the whole time? This will effect gas mileage. I have not got that bad ever, I normally get over 20 with a combo low range/high range driving.

Haven't really checked it out exactly, but yesterday I put on just under 50 miles of varied trail with a lot of mud/water running and didn't go through a half tank on my Hawkeye...granted the Hawkeye has a smaller engine but I would still expect you to get better then you are getting! I know of 800s that are getting much better then yours and they are generally noted for being a bit on the thirsty side! Wondering if maybe a sensor is messed up or the calibration of the EFI is off...how does it run, I have no direct experience with the 500 EFI, but if is going through that much fuel I would think it would show up in poor performance

I was in low range part of the time, but most of the time I was in high range. And like I said my buddy that bought his the same day still had over a half of a tank left. I guess I will just take it back to the dealer to see what they say about it. I thought 8 miles to the gallon was bad. That was the second time that I had tested it. A tank and a half took me 52 miles.

Just to add my .02 worth. You definetly need to take it back. I've never got below 17 in mixed riding. That was with a lot of rock crawling.
