Default 04 700 sportsman doesn't want to shift in high

Hello I have a 04 sportsman 700 and the shifter doesn't to engage all the way into high. I hold the brake down and shift most of the time it just grinds. After a few tries it works and I don't have any problems. Could the plunger from the brake not be letting the shifter engage fully. It shifts into park just fine. I don't want to wreck my tranny if their is an easy fix. Thanks

will it shift easier into high when motor is off. Just wondering if there might be a clutch/belt problem? Any creeping at idle in any gear? What is your idle speed shoud be 1150rpm + or - 50rpm....

It shifts just fine with the motor on or off. It just doesn't seem to catch all the way. When you shift into high you don't know if it works until you give it some gas and it grinds the gears. Idle is 1150rpm.It seems like the gear is not engaging all the way and something is holding it up. Thanks

Are there no linkage adjuster rods on the 700?

None on the 700 or 800, look and see if the rod is bent, lubricated! Check each end of the shifter ,the attachment points & mounts.Time for a fluid change??......
