adjust clutch
#2
There are lots of clutch mods available, especially springs and weights. Most people would rather have the clutch engage at higher RPMs than lower, because when it barely engages at low RPMs, it heats everything up and breaks the belt.

there is no adjustment on the 06' sportsman 450. the clutch should be engaging around17 to 1800 if i remember right. another spring might change the rpm higher or lower(not recommened)if you like, but that only makes it rev higher before the engaging takes place. check to make sure your belt is sitting up about 1/8" above the secondary clutch and that its not burnt the belt.
