Replacing front CV Joint
#1
I took apart my front rightt CV join and the bearing inside feel out in pieces. Ordered a new part from the dealer and now I cant get the race out of the hub. Is there some kind of trick of how to do it?? Thanks

there should be a knotch in the housing that you can use a punch to knock out the race if i rememebr right. you should have a press to put the new one back in.

The cages/race in the outer CV come apart like a puzzle, only one way and tools should not be necessary, tilt the outer one different ways till it pops right out, sometimes the solid inner one has to come out first. Make sure you have all the bearing ***** out before you disassemble, then take your time trying different positions till you get it to pop out. You'll laugh once you get it, its that easy.

Thanks Fellas, I pulled the CV Boot off and the bearing and all the bearing ***** came out in pieces. Now I only have what looks like a cup with grooves notched inside of it where the bearing would sit. I'm having trouble getting that piece out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has step by step for them too.

you got to clean it all up then put the solid star shaped piece inside the cage, look at star shaped piece it has in the center a circular indented place-on only one side- where C-clip on long part of shaft will sit when whole assembly is pressed together, the indented side faces inwards on cup with grooves--it only goes in one way with NO tools easily, try different positions till you get it, then once you get that together you insert it into the axle end cup side--again NO tools it only goes in one way, try different positions. Then tilt whole cage assembly and with handle of screwdriver LIGHTLY tap in ball bearings one at a time--you should not use hammer they shouldn't need more then a screwdriver handles tapping power, once its together pack with grease and put boot back on shaft then put C-clip on shaft press assembly on shaft, you might have to "feel the splines line up" and tap the 2 pieces together with rubber mallet or small block of wood as the C-clip will give a slight resistance till its started and after its on give light tug to make sure C-clip is seated into recess on star shaped piece, then slide boot into place and tighten new band clamp. Its really not that hard and complicated so don't let it intimidate you, take your time and look at the whole thing before you start assembling it and picture what Ive described about the center star shaped piece, thats the most important thing--make sure that the circular recessed side is facing inwards on the cup because when you press the assembly together the C-clip will seat in that recessed part of the star
