What year is my LTA-50?
#1
Bought this thing from a buddy a couple weeks ago. Title says it is a 2001, but everyone I talk to says they didn't make the new model until 2002. Any way you can tell what year it really is by vin number or something like that, other than the title?

Not sure if anyone is reading this but I found this site to help.

Turns out I actually bought a 2002...good thing I bought it for an estimated 2001 price!

It is not nearly as bad as one of the sites I saw it on. Just involves adjusting chain tension and re torque housing bolts. http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety...all_e.asp?recno=9386&
Would love to figure out where the VIN number is so I can figure out the year.

Found the VIN on left front frame behind left front wheel. I have a 2002 model. I mean my son has a 2002 model.

My son also has a 2002 model. When yall guys figure out how to give these things some more torque/low end power please let me know. I have done most of the easy mods: restrictors removed, drill air box etc. The bike definately has more mid power and increased speed, and really does great on level ground. But throw in some mud are hills and it just seems to bog down. I read where one of yall had replaced some jets, did that make a noticable differance in performance?
Thanks,
JC

Yes, see writeups here by me and many others. If you've removed both carb restrictors and the exhaust pipe restrictor, you should change the carb's main jet to a #70 (Mikuni Small Round style). That will beef things up considerably.
My son's LT-A50 climbs hills amazingly well. Not like my 700 Twin [grin] but he can climb some pretty steep gradients at around 10 MPH and maintain about 20 MPH on smooth level ground. Those are benchmarks to use for comparison.
