Default HELP--- Polaris 90 problems!

My kids 2002 Polaris 90 scrambler developed problems after being ridden in rain/mud. The next day it wouldn't start,so I drained the gas and it ran good for about 20 mintues. She said she hit a bump and it quit. It would start, but would die when the gas was given. Any help would be great. Thanks

What's the best way to clean the stator/coil? Air or contact cleaner? Also is the pick-up coil with the stator. Thanks

Default HELP--- Polaris 90 problems!

I went to work on it this morning and it started and ran fine again. Would the dirt in stator/coil cause it to run good some times and bad others. It seems strange ,see said she hit a bump and it acted up. Could be the dirt bounces around in the startor area? It's hard to fix when it's not acting up when I have it.

I would check fuel system and carb for water. If running good until fuel shook up,could be water at bottom of carb? Water settle in the bottom of fuel tanks and the carb if present. Just a thought!

Default HELP--- Polaris 90 problems!

My 2-stroke Polaris 90ies were always giving me trouble. I sold them and don't miss them one bit.

I do see that the new ones are 4-stroke so maybe things have changed.

Good luck with yours.

If the problem arises again I am also going to go with the stator. But it would only take a second to drain the bowel on the carb also. The symptoms you describe are classic symptoms of a stator heading south. Pull off the right cover and clean it out real well and see if that helps, but I bet you will end up replacing the stator to fix the problem 100%.
