vbike v4s oil?
#1
Ive had my vbike v4s since december. Nice atv for the money i think. Ive rode it pretty hard. Ive rolled it a couple times, jumped it a couple times, raced it alot of times, and its still doing fine. Never had any major problems, just things like bolts coming loose and thats it. I just did a recent oil change and i've just now noticed while its running it shows it has no oil on the viewing screen. Is it suppose to be like that? The oil is full.
Oh and ive noticed this for a couple weeks. It looks like it leaking oil im guessing?

Sorry for the crappy pictures, its from my phone.

Hi lilc9928, it's perfectly normal for the oil in the sight glass to disapear when it is running. I have two Vbike V4S's that I maintain and they both do that. The sight glass is just a convenient way of checking your oil level, when it's not running, without having to pull the dipstick out.
As far as your oil leakage, the pictures look like it is just a residual amount perhaps a slight seepage from the side cover gasket. If were me I would find a torque spec for that size of side cover bolt and retorque them. For instance the torque spec on the side cover bolts of a Honda XR 250 is 9LB FT and they are the same size as the side cover bolts on the V4S. I would clean the engine off real well and then go from there. It certainly dosn't look like much of a leak though.
I had my V4S's out today and rode them up to about 10,800 feet in altitude, according to my GPS, in the Colorado mountains. The ATV's ran great.

thanks Coloradotrailrider,
Ive never notice it do that before with the oil disappear on the screen.
As for the oil leakage i'll just clean it off and see if it comes back.
I ride my v4s about 4 times a day but in my yard :/, ive took it to the badlands 3 times. If you want to see what im talking about with badlands go to http://badlandsoffroad.com/
Look at some of the pictures on there site.
the only thing ive had a problem with my vbike was the screws in the rotors, theres like 6-8 in each rotor. They would always come loose and lock up one of my wheels. That was dangerous. But got it fixed by putting bolts in it. Now nothing goes wrong with my vbike. Im very happy with the buy I made.
But im thinking its time for a new clutch . after the atv's warmed up when you left off the clutch to go it makes like a grinding noise . Does that mean its time for a new clutch?

Sounds like your clutch is at the end of it's life possibly. The grinding sound is not a good sign for the clutch. It is possible that all the friction material is worn off one or more of your clutch discs letting metal to metal grind. The big problem with that is the metal shavings that will get in the same oil that your engine uses for lubrication.
If your comfortable doing a clutch job I would pull the clutch apart to look at the condition of the plates. If your not comfortable with doing that you should have somebody look at it soon.
The Badlands looks like a great place to ride, lots of choice in terrain.

yea i thought it was time for a new clutch
but doing the work myself is fine with me.
im only 15 and and this atv was my very first try for a clutch.
i new all the basics of driving a clutch be because when i was young there was this racing game at the mall 6speed manual with clutch i miss it. but anyways if you didnt know how to drive the car wasnt going to move. buy yea i knew how to drive a clutch for the most part the first day i got it. I killed it 1 time to be the truth but i think atleast everybody does atleast 1 time for there first time.
ive should of known i was gonna need to buy a new clutch, you try pulling 7-8 people on sleds with this atv. I had to ride the clutch just to get it to go or i would kill it or flip it backwords. But mostly likely that was probably why my clutch is going out im thinking.
How much is a new clutch for a vbike anyways? will $100 dollars buy me one?
