Default 07 Sportsman Speedometer

My 2007 Sportsman 700 lost power to the speedometer and won't start. Engine turns over but won't fire. The 12v plug shorted out so that is disconnected. All fuses are intact and there is power to the harness. I'm at a dead end. Any help?

What I meant is there 12 volts on the red wire in the harness that plugs directly into the speedometer!! Large connector with a bunch of wires. Should be power to wire at all times key off or on doesn't matter. If not may be the problem,or if has power, then speedo may be at fault.

Yes there is power there. I checked both pins and both are getting 12 volts +/-. Started right up this morning and now the speedometer is working. ???
