Default 88' TRX250X

Hi everybody....I'm new to the forum....and new to the world of 250x's. I recently traded a thrown together bayou 220 for an 88' TRX250x. After I made the deal and got the quad home I noticed that the rear axle was loose in the carrier. I assumed the bearings were shot, so I gathered up a kit. The bearings pressed tightly into the carrier, the carrier seemed to fit snug into the swing arm. Upon reinstallation I found the jam nut (the threaded collar, and 2 nuts on the right side) used for setting bearing preload are worn out...so it won't really pull anything tight. Also looking at the pictures on Bikebandit..it appears there are 2 o-rings that go between the threaded collar and the disc brake rotor. Well bike bandit calls them o-rings...I am assuming they are some sort of shim maybe? I found a couple items I could use for shims just to mock everything up when I was going back together. I was able to snug the jam nut up...not tight but snug and all the side to side play was gone from the axle, but it had up and down movement. So...at this stage I know I need a new threaded collar and the jam nuts.... an axle maybe too? It has a durablue axle in it.....the carrier doesn't appear to be moving up and down at all, just the axle. I was lookin foward to riding this weekend because its the first nice weekend.....with everything that is turning out to be messed up on this quad I dunno if Iwill ever get to ride it! Well, if anybody has any suggestions or can enlighten me I would much appreaciate it.

Mark,
Is the circlip there? The one that goes next to (under) the jam nut?

Yes...that circlip is there. I ordered a new threaded sleve and the adjusting nut, lock nut and the 2 shims between the sleve and the brake rotor carrier....cost me $70 bucks at the dealer...I went ahead and bent over the fender of one of there new ATVS so they could take there turn with those prices.

they are o-rings, they go inside the brake disk hub. well one goes inside the brake hub the other goes against the sprocket hub. there are no shims between the axle nut and the brake hub.

Something else I thought I may ask.....somebody has done some creative eletrical wireing with this thing....anyhow, it has a fog lamp mounted on the handlebars in place of the OE headlamp. The wire they are using for power certinaly supplies power, but it doesn't seem to be regulated...the higher I rev the motor the brighter the light gets until it blows....the light will shut off and on with the factory switch though so I am guessing its probably the correct wire? Anybody have any ideas on that?
