Default 87 warrior has no air box top?

Hello, when I bought the warrior it had no top to the air box. Looks to be a k&n filter in it. Can you run without this? Or would it run better with one?

If you are getting the right air/ fuel ratio and no unfiltered air is getting in you should be fine.

is it just a drop in k&n? if so then i wouldnt run it with the lid off, since the lid is designed to hold the filter in place and there is like a 2 inch gap from the filter to the intake boot alot of dust will go directly into the carb, if its a clamp on filter then you should be fine, im guessing somebody should have already rejetted for that setup, as long as it doesnt hick up real bad when giving alot of throttle u should be fine, just clean and oil the filter every once in a while they get dirty pretty fast with no lid.

I prefer to have a lid. more protection for that motor, rebuilds can get spendy in a hurry.

Yea if you have the right filter and jets it should be fine to run like that. The only other thing is just to be careful and not be going througha bunch of mud and dirt and water. With that open box it's a lot more likely to suck somthing into your motor.

Make sure it's a clamp on as stated above. Then I'd get a pre-filter. K&N themselves recommend pre-filters.
