Cool New AC 150 Speedo problems

My daughter's new (09) AC 150 came with a digital gauge with speedometer, gas, odometer, etc., but the speedo has been jumping around all over the place, so the dealer ordered a new one. We'll see if it fixes the problem.

We finally learned it was not the speedo but the sending unit - fixed under warranty. But now we are having problems keeping the battery charged. Other than that, it is a great machine.

Put a volt meter on it.

Without the machine running the battery should sit about 12.5-13.1 volts. WITH it running about 14.5.

Unfortuneately just because it's a new machine doens't mean the battery is any good. As a rule STOCK batteries are CRAP.

Just an FYI - sometimes new riders DON'T shut off the ignition key an only use the "kill" switch - thus draining the battery over time.

Good luck

Thanks, cups - we have been watching the battery, and indeed we have replaced the original. Also, I tell all my riders to shut off the ATV with the key, not the kill switch.

I am wondering if the Stator just isn't strong enough to handle the cooling fan and other things at the same time. I was going to mount a winch on the quad, but now I am not so sure it can handle it. Will be up to the cottage again this weekend and will see how the battery is doing.
