yamoto 50 draining battery
#4
First thing to determine:
Is the battery not being charged while the engine is running, or is the battery being drained after the engine is turned off. And I guess we also have to consider the possibility that both problems are true.
When the engine is running at a medium to medium fast clip measure the DC voltage right at the battery terminals with all accessories such as head lights turned off. It should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If it does then your charging system is working. If it reads less than 12.6 volts then your charging system is not working.
To see if the battery is being drained after the engine is turned off, pop out the main fuse. Insert a current meter on the 10 amp scale (most meters have a current measurement setting) in place of the fuse. It should read zero. If it does then try going to a lower scale such as 500 milliamps (0.5 amps). It should still read zero.
Leave the fuse out overnight. If you read zero current drain with your meter earlier, and the battery still goes dead overnight then the battery is bad.
