Default 2006 scrambler engine problems

I have a '06 polaris scrambler that I bought new. I have done everything the manual asks to keep the machine in top condition. This includes frequent oil changes, greese fittings, lube chain...I do not pound this machine and have an estimated 500 - 700 miles. I bought it with the intention of keep in it for years to come. What has been fixed already: front hub seal, new master cylinder, new choke cable which froze in carb...

Engine runs great but I noticed the engine is using oil. I estimate I have to add a quarter of a quart for every 50 miles I ride. Dealer can not find external leak and did a "compression" test and "leak" test; nothing abnomal found. The exhaust is clean and plug is not fouled. The owner of dealer said it must be the lower oil ring which can only be diagnosed by internal examination of motor. He said they would then bore out motor and replace piston and all rings. He said it is because I have never changed the air filter!

I only ride with one other person, almost always leading. It does get dusty at times, but I have cleaned the outer screen element in soapy water and examined airfilter yearly. Does his explaination sound reasonable? Any other things worth checking? I think its time to accept that I have a lemon and I should look at dumping it for a Renegade.

please advise

Must of just bought a bad one, with a ring defect maybe. The 500 Fugi motor is the most reliable thing about a Scrambler. 500-700 miles just can not kill a motor even if a person was slack about oil changes and air filters.

My Cousin's 2000 Scrambler,s with no oil loss motor always runs great 3500 miles and he treats it like a Red headed stepchild.

If there is no oil loss externally, the you have to be seeing blue smoke out the pipe if the motor is burning oil.
