Starter brushes '05 Rancher.
#1
I have put myself in a jam. When I tried to start my Rancher, all it would do is "click" the selinode. Friend told me the start was bad. Took starter out and everything looks good. To me it looks like new. So I started to put it back together and I am stumped as how to put the brushes back in. Once I put it back together I can test it.
Any tips. I hope this is enough info for a response.

Before you assemble the starter are the brushes moving in/out freely .. If the solinoid is just clicking the brush/s must be worn out or stuck .. Are the commutator bars clean ..

When I get a starter to re-build (which is often) I replace the brushes (1 brush comes on the brush holder , 1 brush comes seperate) I then check the bearing & bushing , I replace the endcap if the bearing is bad .. (I don't replace it with the orginal roller bearing endcap I use a larger ball bearing endcap) .. I then take the armature and (on the commutator bar side) I lightly tighten it in a drill , then take the drill and lightly clamp it in a bench vice , then pull the drill trigger and lock the trigger , then if the commutator bars are not damaged I use crocus cloth (or VERY fine sandpaper) and clean the commutator bars while the armature is spinning in the drill .. If the bars are damaged by badly worn/stuck brushes I first clean them up with a fine file , using the drill a a mini lathe ..

Here's how the starter dis-assembles
