Default Sportsman Rear cargo box on XP problem

I am sure as many of you know the rear cargo box from the Sportsman Classic fits also on the XP. The only issue I have found (as well as one other I have talked too) is that sometimes when you are on a really bumpy trail the rear box becomes loose. Other than using a bungee cord has anyone found a fix for this? I my self have thought of cutting of the rear plastic pins that go into the rear part of the rack but am not sure there is enough space on the inner part of the box for the lock and ride mount to fit? Any suggestions?

Can you screw the bolt part tighter like you can with a latching boat lock? At least on a boat plug this will make the grip tighter before latching. Just a hopeful shot in the dark.

I tired that and also added some spacers to make the rubber part go further into the rack like on the front but it still comes loose. I wound if it has something to do with the metal L bracket. Maybe I need longer mounts? On a very bumpy trail the box rattles and comes loose.

Thor, Maybe rough up the inside of the tube with some 40grit paper, so the rubber plug has something to really grip onto....If that plug is tight (screwed in) it should not come loose.

I know what you're saying Thor. The push pin actually unlocks, right? Had this happen the first time I took the box out. It seem the pins are a little short. I mentioned that last year and no one else seemed to have a problem. Maybe they ride smoother trails than I do. ave not found a fix myself. Adding weight to it may help, along with warmer weather for the pins. Other than that, not sure.

Only other problem with the older box is that a rack extension doesn't fit with it.

Yep. On the very bumpy trails they start to slide out no matter how tight you adjust the nut. You cant tighten it too much because you will not get it off. I took the mounts off my original front rack yesterday and replaced them with the ones that were on the rack. They are longer so some of the rubber is now under the plastic hole if you understand what I mean. If this does not work I am going to try to ad a extra mount on in the rear like I have on my Wes box. That one has 4 and is nice and sturdy. I like this box over the new one. They are just too big for my taste + I love my back rest for those long 350 mile + rides.
