If the u-joint broke and not the cv joint, maybe you could try to remove the axle from the cv joint instead and tow or drive it in that way?
There is a roll pin holding the u-joint yoke to the front gearcase(which aren't fun to get to, even in a shop) If you broke the u-joint and can remove the axle from the cv(which is done by pulling sharply on it to get it out of the cv joint) Leave the cv joint in the hub and bring it in that way.
I never tried to remove an axle shaft from a cv(by pulling on the axle I mean), I always had the wheel, suspension etc off and removed the cv joint from the axle. You may be in for a fight. Good luck.

Yep, or you could go to a local junk yard and grab a hood of an old something and punch a couple holes for chains......then ratchet-strap the beast to the hood and drag it that way.
