2005 800 mods (temp gauge, fan switch, 3-headlight)
#1
I know, I know...as if there are not already enough threads on here concerning these mods, right??? As many as there are, I still don't have enough information to complete my tasks...
1) Temp gauge: Tapped, drilled, wired and installed. Simply need to determine where to tap for the 12v power for the gauge. Everyone seems to tap off the 12v cig lighter. Anyone have a better location? Any way to use "add-a-fuse" or anything along those lines? Add-a-fuse is used in an auto fuse block, usually. Pull a fuse of appropriate size and type (i.e. 10a, ignition) and plug tap into the fuse slot and then plug the fuse into the tap.
2) Fan switch. I have read that this is as simple as running a wire lead into the Positive side of the fan lead (from a switch). Both my 2004 400 and my 2004 800 have a blue and a black wire from the fan motor to a plug but an orange and brown lead from that plug on the wiring harness. Can I simply solder right into the positive wire? If so, which wire is positive? I was thinking of cutting on the fan side of the harness.
3) 3-light mod. LOTS and LOTS of information on the diode mod. However, I want to go the safer route so I picked up a relay and will use it for this mod. Thanks to the guys who have put up the instructions and the wiring diagrams for this.
I am also looking to purchase a few nice rocker switches. I am seriously considering the Quadovator (OTTO) switches.
I can't believe with all this information that no one has posted any photos. I don't mean of the finished products, but rather of the connection points and such. The fan-mod is the hardest one to find information on.
If anyone has any solid info please help me out. Less than two weeks until our next wheelin' trip!!!
If anyone can set me up with a wiring diagram, a photo of one you've installed or can give good instructions, please let me know!!!

Just looking for a few wire colors, guys. I found the red, yellow and green for the 3-light relay. I just need to know how far upstream I can connect to into that harness. In other words, there is little room to attach any wires inside the pod so I was looking to attach a little further down - is this OK?
Anyone know which wire is HOT to the fan? Blue/Black on fan side Orange w/tracer and Brown on harness side...
Thanks

brown is ground. more than likly be the orange with tracer.
any where on the wires for the headlights would work. aslong as its the correct color. headlight pod would be best as its the highest point on the atv, and the dryest spot. unless you got a water proof relay and use solder and heat shrink to water proof the connections to prevent corroshion and future electrial issues.

Otto is definitely the way to go for switches...If you go direct to Otto I believe it's cheaper than quadovator...Yes they are waterproof too...
