Default Carb Main Jet E clip location

My 300 has the 5dp7 jet and the book says to place the e-clip on the 3rd ring but it dont say if you count the rings from the direction of the jet tip (bottom) or from the beginning of the jet (top). I cannot trust the location that it is now as the guy that had it before dont know his head from his butt.
Thanks!

Most run better if you put it in the second from the top. Also open the air screw one half turn out from where it is now.

That on itself will make it run leaner, of course adjusting the air will probably compensate. Interesting. I will set it up as the factory indicates run it a bit then make the change.
Thanks!

what i do is start with the clip in the middle, then start enriching it by lowering the clip(which raises the needle)once it stumbles go back one and your set.
