99 xplorer 4x4 belt slipping
#1
So i just replaced the belt because i thought thats why it was slipping, but the brand new belt slips too.
I am not very good with clutches, but the belt started slipping after / while i was pulling disc's for planting a food plot. It was putting a TON or strain on the thing, but it faired pretty well until the belt started slipping.
Is there something that needs to be tightened in the primary? It seems to be slipping and not engaging correctly because it doesn't like to take off well, but once you get going, the belt still slips, but not as bad. It also slips less in LO as opposed to HI.
Any ideas? Is there something wrong with the clutching? What would have warn out?

welcome to the forum. so the engine is reving high and your not or baily moving? is this what your slipping is, or is it bogging and like trying to take off in a higher gear (like in a stanard)to get going? some times the secondary clutch(the big on on the transmision) clutch buttons get worn out and need replacing. they are located under the helix. when you replaced your belt did you look at the sheeves to see they were in good condtion and not peeling as well. when doing work w/ the bike you really should always be in low range to make it easier on the bike and clutches.

Its almost like the belt is too loose and it chatters really bad. You can hear / feel the belt in there flapping up and down and slipping. When i was pulling the discs i was in LO, but it was definatly running hot.
When i had the cover off, i looked at the primarly and it seemed to be moving in and out fine. I was never one to fool around with the clutching on my snowmobiles, but i know its the same concept. I have never had this problem before and i have had this thing since it was new. Idk if the clutch needs to be rebuilt or what, but i don't want to get taken for from a dealer....

Sounds more like the clutch buttons in the secondary clutch. Pretty much the same concept and operation as the Polaris snowmobile clutch. If you are in snow country ask some of your freinds to check it out it they are snowmobilers. Hopefully they can help.

Well....replaced the buttons in the secondary, and it pulled the wheels in low with AWD on.....so i would say its fixed, i think...
