Default Broken Rear Rack Mounts on 660 Grizzly

A buddy of mine has had an extended rear rack/basket on the rear rack of his 2004 Grizzly for several years. After riding the Paiute Trail this week, we noticed it wobbling, and after taking a close look, we saw that it had caused the rear rack to tear off the mounting points welded on the frame.

It will obviously need new mounts welded onto the frame if he wants to have a rear rack again...has anyone else had this happen? I am always looking for an improvement over stock, so if anyone knows of an additional frame weld/brace that can be applied, I would appreciate the info

My advice was to skip the dealer as he will need a good welder to make the repair, because frame welding is not a typical service offered at a dealer...they will only farm it out to a local welder and charge a handling fee.(or am i mistaken?) Additionally, the dealer will not have new mounting tabs available to be welded.

Suggestions?

Just weld it yourself. Its going to be much cheaper doing it that way than going to a dealer and having them put a new rack or brackets on.

If your good at welding do it yourself. If you have never welded take it to a shop. I would recomend TIG welding them on so you won't burn your atv up from the sparks/spatter. Also anytime you weld on a frame disconect the negative battery terminal, so you don't run the risk of frying your electronics.
