Default Synthetic or Regular Engine Oil In A Yam Big Bear 400??

Does anyone use fully synthetic engine oil in their Yamaha ATV's? My ATV is a 2004 Yamaha Big Bear 400 4WD with manual transmission. It gets very hot during summertime work and use when temps are in the 90"s. The oil cooler fan cuts on and off frequently during the heat of the day. I was wondering if a synthetic oil would be better than standard oil, reduce friction, and reduce operating temp, etc.. Would there be enough improvement or benefit with synthetic oil to justify the higher cost?

Some owners of motorcycles, ATV's, etc. have switched to diesel truck engine oils in both regular and synthetic formulations. There is debate about the use of auto/truck engine oils in motorcycles because of the friction modifiers. Opinions? Experiences??

Thanks, Dave

Synthetic all the way. you have to be careful of what type you use it has to be wet clutch compatible.. To just make it easy go get some 0-40 ams oil for ATV's

Not only does this stuff make your engine wear better but it has special stuff the keep the oil fresh longer in the transmissions

Just use a good quality oil. No real need for synthetic oil IMHO.

The problem with synthetic oil is this. People go out and spend up to $15 bucks + for a quart and then go out and get some water in it. They don't want to change it because they have $40 or more dollars in oil in their quad engine. I don't care how good of oil you put in your quad, if you get water or dirt, mud in your oil, it's junk.

If you use synthetic oil it will drop your oil temp a few degrees but not much.

As far as wear. Your engine will out last you if you make sure your engine has a good air cleaner on it.
