Default how to remove crankshaft gear, balancer, drive

I am putting a crank from a 2003 into my 2004 polaris predator 500. But this part(gear, balancer, drive) on it is different so i need to know how to remove it from my 04 crank and put it on to the 03 crank.

thanks, josh

This is a HARD gear to remove with out damaging the gear! I've heated these before and used a bearing separator to get between the back of the gear and the crank half, but have sometimes damaged the teeth! This gear is pressed on and has a locating pin that has to be lined up properly! If you don't have the tools for this,I would let a shop do it,cheaper in the long run. The part numbers show to be different on the 03 and 04,BUT have you tried to mate up the gear on the crank and counter balancer and see if they mate properly?? OPT

the only difference in the gear is the one has a bit dished out of the side, the teeth, etc are the same.

I would still let a machine shop do it for you,it was really hard for me to save the gears even with the heat and separator, plus maybe a good machine shop has a better way to remove without damaging the gear. Its mainly because the teeth are all the way back tight against the crank half and easily chipped! OPT

X2 It's the one gear I didn't take off my 800 rebuild. It takes heat to get it back on correctly too. Take it to the shop as advised!
