Default 2006 polaris hawkeye 300 4 x 4 engine oil

My 2006 Polaris Hawkeye call out using an OW-50 oil for the engine oi. Is it fine to use OW-40 Amsoil? When I picked up oil from the amsoil dealer that's what he said to use based on Polaris specs. I called around because I was concerned and was told it was fine to use it. I have only put on about 25-50 miles with this oil. Just want to check and make sure its fine. What difference would it make? Most other Polaris ATV's take OW-40.

Thanks.

0w-40 is fine it cover cold to hot exsteams. Its a do it in all temp range oil.

Polaris is the only suppliers of there new odd ball 0w-50 or 2w-50 ,I think its a scam to make people buy Polaris oil only.

TLC nailed it. Polaris does that just to get you to buy their oil, we have a popo 300 just like yours and have been running Royal Purple 20W-50 since day one. Good luck

So what is the final recommendation?

Amsoil OW-40? Royal Purple 20W-50?

I have another guy telling me not to use the Amsoil OW-40 because it is supposedly too 'slippery' and will adventually blue the wet clutch plates.

Any truth to that?

I hate to chance out the oil since I just spent the money and put in Amsoil OW-40. I also have to go by the special oil from Polaris as I think its a scam also.

Final advise?

You DON'T have a "wet clutch" that is clutch plates like in a motorcycle in your atv. You do have a "centrifical" type "brake shoe" internal clutch that works along with the outer belt clutch system,BUT we have used synthetic in those for years!! The little racing KTM 50 has this type clutch and uses synthetic oil and turns about 12,000 rpms! You can Use Mobil1 as many do or ANY other synthetic 0w40 OR can use the Polaris brand lubricant. I appreciate your feedback. I thought the same thing. There isn't anything wet in m machine. Don't know what the service tech was talking about.

Your definitely my advise guy.

Kudos to you.

Thanks.

Two things wrong with that, the Polaris has no wet clutch like mention and Amsoil synthetic 0w-40 is made for wet clutches anyways, its stated right on the lable.

I would go with 0w before 20w because it flows quicker on cold starts and in cold weather,as the above chart shows.
