Default 2009 sportsman 800 using oil

I have 09 800 sportsman H.O this is my second 800 I have 5000 miles on this one and it is using about 3/4 quart of oil every 150 miles My last 800 did the same thing at 4500 miles the polaris dealer that did compression test and leak down test told me it was within polaris specs just add oil when needed they do not seem to smoke or lose power just cant believe these things seem to start having problems at 4500 miles did any one else have this problem I love the ride of polaris but I might have to try diffrent brand

The ones we had the most oil use on was the 800 Razr, especially if air filters weren't kept clean (had some early air box bulletins also) Dirt would just bypass the filter into the throttle body and on in the engine, didn't take long for some "neglected" ones to start smoking, burning oil excessively! This is something I've noticed over the years on the 700 and 800 engines, even with filters checked often or even some going the dirt bike route with oiled foam filters, these engines even though they were tough, powerful engines, just had a thirst for oil. Could be just the design of the oil rings not sealing against the cylinder walls well enough?? PLUS I never thought just two quarts of oil was sufficient enough for these big engines any way. Just my 2 cents. OPT

I don't think their twins were nearly as good as the single cylinder 425 and 500.
