I would first check under the fuse panel,has 4 fuses(located under the front panel) as there were a few machines that had a problems on the wires in the bottom of the fuse holder shorting out intermittently against the frame.Plus if I remember correctly there is a 20 amp thermal fuse if you follow the harness back from the fuse panel also that could be the problem(getting hot and killing power until it cools off) OPT

Try taking the screws out of the fuse holder,use either tape or silicone on the bottom where all the wires go in to isolate the fuse holder wires from the mounting bracket. We had shorts in this area on some 800s,cant remember if any on the 500s,but sounds like your in the right area if its doing better! OPT
